I was born and raised in Oklahoma and now live in St. Peters, Missouri. I’ve always approached music on my own terms. Music was my first love, but I chose stability and security over taking a chance on becoming famous. Even so, the songs never left me. I still write about love, loss, regret, relationships, resilience, memories, personal growth, and the experiences I've observed in the lives around me, exposed me to many different kinds of music and the personalities behind them, I do not put my songs into one genre. The sound begins with what I hear in my head, and I follow wherever the story leads.
There was a time when I sold all of my music equipment because I believed the opportunity had passed me by. Then a book about the History of Music awakened something within me and inspired me to begin again. From that point forward, songwriting became a personal mission. I always carried a portable studio with me wherever I went, often choosing to remain in my hotel room writing, learning production, and developing my craft instead of going outon the town. I was never interested in being in the spotlight, but I did hope to be recognized for my ability to write and produce good songs.
I've been writing in one form or another for as long as I can remember and have spent much of my life seriously developing songs. Early in my journey, many of my songs grew from characters I imagined in different situations. As I matured and experienced more of life, my writing became increasingly personal. I write the lyrics, hear the melodies and arrangements in my head, and produce the songs myself. For me, the emotional truth of a song matters more than fitting a formula or chasing what is considered marketable. What makes a song feel real and honest is the vulnerability.
Digital technology helped me continue creating when I could no longer devote the time required to master every instrument. Still, producing the complete sound I heard in my head required resources I didn't have until AI became available. Because I had already written a large body of songs, I didn't need AI to create new ideas. All I needed was a way to fully produce and interpret them. I use AI as a production partner to explore arrangements, instrumentation, genres, and vocal interpretations while continuing to guide the lyrics, melody, and creative direction behind each song.
The story behind a song is available for anyone who chooses to go deeper, but I believe the first connection should always come from how the music makes someone feel. A listener may discover a song without knowing why or how it was written, and that is perfectly fine. What matters is whether they recognize something of themselves in it. Through The Listening Room, I give listeners a place to move beyond the recording and experience more of the emotion and person behind the song. “My hope is that a special bond forms between what I've written and what the listener feels—that the song reminds them they are not alone and that someone else has also lived through a similar emotion.
